Beach Resort Bliss & Wasini Island Adventure

DreamBreak (this trip does not include a host)
Retreat to a multi-award-winning resort for plenty of family fun in the sun & a wonderful outing — by traditional dhow boat! — on Wasini Island with snorkeling at Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park, a Coral Gardens tour & more. Book by September 5.

About Your Trip

Gather up the family, pack your swimsuit and get ready for good times of all kinds on Kenya’s glorious southeastern coast. Don’t forget your camera! You’ll want to capture every moment of the fun as you make your way from your acclaimed spa-resort in Diani Beach to idyllic Wasini Island — and beyond — during an amazing daytrip that features sightseeing, snorkeling and other activities.

Starting at the tiny port town of Shimoni, board a dhow boat, a traditional Arabian-style sailing vessel, and set off to Kisite Mpunguti Marine National Park. Known for frequent dolphin and turtle sightings, these pristine coral reefs off the southern coast of Wasini Island offer ideal conditions for snorkeling. Spectacular marine life abounds here — including more than 200 species of dolphin — so chances are good that you’ll see something enchanting under the surface of the shimmering waters, like schools of parrotfish, snappers, angel fish and more.

Enjoy lunch on the island itself, then visit Coral Gardens where you can stroll along the boardwalk that’s maintained and operated by a group of women as a fundraiser for their village. The boardwalk winds through mangroves and offers views of these breathtaking coral formations. From there, you’ll return to the mainland and visit the “slave caves” in Shimoni — used to hold escapees before they could be returned to the slave markets — and Shimoni Slave Museum. After you’ve had time to reflect on the dark days of colonialism and slavery, you’ll be ushered back to the resort for free time on your own.

Luckily, your resort is the perfect place to hang out, offering something enjoyable to suit every taste. Why not start with a leisurely walk through the resort’s tropical gardens? It’s a great place to spot local wildlife! Or, find your ideal spot on the beach, lounge with a cocktail by the pool, or get active with on-site water sports — perhaps kayaking or windsurfing! (Some activities are at an additional cost.) If you’d rather, you can do yoga, pamper yourself with some soothing spa time (at your own expense) and take in the daily and nightly entertainment — the choice of activity is entirely up to you!

What we love:
• Along with other accolades, Leopard Beach Resort & Spa was voted Kenya’s Leading Resort at the World Travel Awards — 7 years in a row!
• Don’t be surprised to find a baboon roaming the resort’s grounds! They’re a common sighting and completely friendly with humans.

Destination

Diani Beach and the coastal resort town of Ukunda — located approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Mombasa, Kenya — possess all the ingredients for a perfect tropical holiday. The long golden beach skirting the Indian Ocean is sun-drenched all year round and dotted with exotic coconut palms. Underwater sandbars allow wading with a clear view of the sandy bottom and help temper the waves, providing excellent kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions. Also known for its beautiful coral reefs, the area is a popular snorkeling and scuba diving destination. And although it’s famous for its natural surroundings, the area boasts plenty of high-end restaurants, hotels and shopping centers.

In the event of conflict between the cancellation policy displayed here and cancellation terms in supplier booking terms, the more restrictive of the two terms will prevail.

Name Change Policies: Name changes are generally not allowed on trips to avoid fraud, gaming and profiteering. We want to ensure that most of our travelers are members. For this DreamTrip, we do make certain exclusions, including the policy below:

We reserve the right to refuse a name change at our sole discretion. If allowed, name changes must be done no later than September 5  and are subject to a fee up to US$100. Name changes after this date are not allowed.

Make sure that your passport and visa, if applicable, are up-to-date before you leave! It’s important to double check that you have all the identification and other documentation required by the specific country you’re traveling to. In many countries, passports and visas must be valid for 6 months or longer after the trip end date.
